Maligno (Claudine Barreto)

MALIGNO

A Satanic worship is being emphasized in the story, the cult is believed to worship the devil and does everything their leader tells them, they also believe that the Time of the Birth is coming. The cult also altogether keeps the group a secret, in every death that was believed to be done by the devil, they’re the ones who cleans up and make the scenes like an accident.

Sta. Niña (Coco Martin)

"Sta. Nina" is set in lahar-ravaged Pampanga. A small coffin was unearthed in a quarrying operation. When Pol (Coco Martin) opens the box, the dead little girl encased inside was still intact with no sign of decay. Puzzled, he brings it home with him. His neighbors begin to experience unexplainable healings when they are in the presence of the uncorrupted corpse. Meanwhile, Pol's personal life is also in shambles as he still has bitter years-old conflicts with his estranged wife Madel (Alessandra da Rossi) and her vindictive mother (Irma Adlawan). As Pol struggles to rid himself of the bad luck that hounded him all his life, could the miraculous corpse of little Marikit also prove to be his salvation? Writer and first-time movie director Emmanuel Quindo Palo does not spoon feed us the story. He tells the story in a way that we have to slowly discover the relationships of the characters. The audience is left to guess at these things until they are revealed in due time. I liked that. Religion is the main backbone of this drama. We see scenes of religious fanaticism in the country folks' belief in miraculous cures, as well as in their gory Holy Week traditions. The audience is challenged to reassess their belief or disbelief in miracles. Director Palo also practically goes through the Stations of the Cross en route to a climactic crucifixion scene. He also has a publicly-maligned character that obviously references a real trans-gender ex-Marian visionary Judiel Nieva. We also see scenes seemingly critical of the clergy.

Despite her hatred for the dirty politics, Cedes has no choice but to succumb to the decision of Dylan out of her indebtedness towards the family. Emman is drawn towards Cedes from the first time she catches his eye. As their lives intertwine through dance, Emman and Cedes find themselves resisting an affair: one that holds the truths to their painful pasts, and the memories of a boundless love. Barako (2007) Indie Film

THE MOVIE. Barako is a haunting account of a young man’s attempt to effect change in his town by gathering his friends around a kapihan called “barakuhan”. In the absence of media, it effectively becomes a venue for the townsfolk to practice their democratic rights, colliding expectedly with the elite’s political and economic interests.
The movie starts glaringly with the American occupation of Batangas (early 1900) with the valiant Gen. Malvar (Archie Adamos) and another local hero, Mateo Ilustre (Manolito Sulit) plotting its defense. It then takes us to a seemingly restive yet impoverished Batangueño community 100 years later, taking shifting points of view of the people from the grassroots, drawing them initially around one central figure, an unnamed character labeled only as the Publicist (Publisista, played by Arnold Reyes) and later on, around yet another, Mando (Carlon Matobato)—referred to in the story (by the Publicist himself) as “ang tunay na barako”.
BASED ON A TRUE STORY. “Barakuhan,” a public forum over a cup of coffee organized by the Publicist with other major characters (played by the likes of Nanding Josef, a veteran actor and CCP’s artistic director, and surprisingly, poets Mike Coroza and Vim Nadera) is in actual existence in Ibaan, Batangas from 2002-2005, remembered by the locals as one that decisively confronted a relatively unknown power outage that crippled the town for six weeks in 2003—which has also become part of the movie.

Ang Pagdadalaga Ni Maximo Oliveros

Maxi (Nathan Lopez) is a 12-year-old effeminate gay boy who lives in the slums with his father and brothers who are petty thieves. The story primarily revolves around the conflict between his love for handsome young police officer Victor (J. R. Valentin), and his family's illegal livelihood. Neo-realist in orientation, the film is a tale of lost innocence and redemption amidst the poverty of Manila's slums.

Maxi behaves like a girl, wearing clips in his hair and bangles on his wrists and even wearing lipstick. He is teased by neighbors and former school friends. His sexuality is, however, fully accepted by his two brothers and by his father. One night he is accosted by two men who attempt to molest him, but is saved by the appearance of Victor. Victor does not have a girlfriend, and his sexuality is never revealed. He rebuffs Maxi's advances, only affectionately stoking Maxi's head even when the boy steals a kiss.

After Maxi's father is killed by Victor's boss, Maxi resists Victor's attempts to renew their friendship. The closing scene shows Maxi walking past Victor who has parked by the roadside on Maxi's way to school. He ignores Victor as he passes him, hesitates momentarily as he crosses the road, then goes on his way. This last scene is a homage to the final scene of "The Third Man".

Pedro Penduko (the return of the comeback)

Pedro Penduko is a Filipino comic book character styled as a folk hero or superhero, created by Francisco V. Coching and debuted on Liwayway Magazine. In his numerous incarnations, Pedro Penduko is consistently portrayed a normal human being who has no superpowers, but is resourceful and quick-witted in battling evil forces. He is aided by a magical amulet (known as Mutya in the TV Series). He was actually introduced in the 1994 and 2000 movies as a descendant of a family of legendary heroes but is a coward. In the TV version however, Pedro is the son of a mortal and a lambana (fairy) whose adventure begins as he starts searching for his lost father. He then encounters extraordinary creatures unique in Philippine folklore. Filipino actor Efren Reyes Sr. was the first to play the role in the bigscreen. This was followed by Ramon Zamora. The most popular Pedro Penduko was Janno Gibbs who appeared in two Pedro Penduko movies. Matt Evans reprised the role on television for a season of Komiks. Komiks Presents: Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko is supposed to be only for a season but because of good ratings it was extended for two more seasons. The third and last season was retitled Komiks Presents: Si Pedro Penduko at ang mga Engkantao. Evans is the first actor to play Pedro Penduko on television and the fourth actor to play the role. Evans is credited for giving Penduko a curly-haired image, which had already become a trademark of the character.

Gangland (1998)

 Gangland (1998)

At oo, mas maganda pa sa City of God.

Liberated 1

LIBERATED 1

The movie LIBERATED which stars Diana Zubiri and Francine Prieto is a futile attempt to make a juvenile drama out of a b-movie, soft-porn flick. Liberated tells the story of a group of friends with focus on the two lead stars Zubiri and Prieto. Zubiri plays a sexually liberated (hence the title) young woman who falls in love with the beau of her morally-inclined best friend (played by Prieto). The discovery of the illicit affair then results to one of the main characters' suicide. The story in itself is lame, seen again as a poor man's attempt at re-creating the tragedy of Peque Gallaga's iconic movie 'Scorpio Nights'. In the first place, Liberated was first conceived as a true soft-porn movie (in the likes of the hundreds of other soft-porn movies currently made), but the writers and producers must have decided that the acting abilities should also stand out. On a brighter note, there is a gradual display of good acting potential from the leads. However, their acting skills have been wasted on the terrible plot, storyline and dialogue. The supposed 'moral values' it tried to convey was wasted miserably. All in all, the movie was abysmal; juvenile at best.

Liberated 2

LIBERATED 2

Liberated 2 essays the journey of four modern characters (Fatima, Janelle, Demi & Washington) from excelling in sex to knowing how to love. Through games and wild adventures, our protagonists come to realize that liberation is not just for the body but also for the heart.

SCORPIO NIGHTS 1 (1985)

In a crowded, multi-appartment house, a young student peeps on his neighbours making love and subsequently develops a steamy affair with the neighbour's wife. The affair slowly becomes an obsession and spins out of control
This highly controversial film shows that director Peque Gallaga could make the silver screen sizzle with steamy Love. The film features a young handsome male voyuer (Daniel Fernando),
who has an obsessive lust for the wife (Ana Marie Gutierrez) of a security guard. The unsuspecting couple's room is directly beneath Daniel's tiny apartment. He looks on an the husband disrobes to make love with willing and passionate wife. One evening when the husband leaves home for work, the obsessed young Danny seduces and then make love with the guard's wife. She does not resist. In several scenes, the film graphically illustrates the superficiality of sexual conquests without love.
